Your role
PGGM is the cooperative pension investor in the Netherlands. We support pension funds through two complementary services: fiduciary management and asset management. We manage pension assets worth 230 billion euros for more than 4 million participants. As a pension investor, we aim to achieve an optimal return for our clients while maintaining a responsible risk profile. We pay particular attention to responsible investment based on the conviction that this can reduce risks and offers opportunities to make a good return with investments that contribute to social and environmental solutions. This is especially true in the long period in which the money of our clients is entrusted to us. In this role you will…
- …analyze a broad range of financial and sustainability data across various asset classes to detect potential ESG risks and opportunities and to measure the ESG performance of portfolios or individual assets.
- …conduct own research on a wide range of topics in sustainable finance and using a broad range of data sets to advance the internal expertise on sustainable investing and to empirically assess the performance (financial and sustainability) of sustainable investment policies.
- …contribute to the development of process automation and process design of data-intensive processes for regulatory sustainability reporting requirements and for the implementation of ambitious sustainability policies.
Responsible Investments department:
As Data Analyst – Responsible Investments you will be based in the Responsible Investments (RI) department of PGGM. RI functions as a center of expertise for sustainable finance within PGGM’s asset management organization. As such RI manages ESG engagements, drives and coordinates ESG-integration across asset classes, and partners with portfolio managers and IT departments to implement our clients’ sustainability policies. The department currently consists of 15 FTE.
You have the folllwing skills and qualifications:
- University degree in Finance, Economics, Econometrics or a related field. MSc/MBA preferred.
- 0-4 years of work experience. Experience in investment management and/or consulting (e.g. from internships or previous position) would be a plus.
- Deep knowledge of financial markets, investment management, and financial risk management including solid knowledge of different asset classes (listed equities, fixed income, private equity, or real estate).
- Good working knowledge of methods in statistics/econometrics and their applications in finance.
- Strong interest in climate change and sustainability topics and a basic understanding of sustainable investing.
- Experience with programming in Python. Experience with SQL and/or VBA would be plus.
- Keen interest in technology and high affinity with IT-related topics.
- Advanced analytical skills, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to synthesize insights from traditional financial data and alternative data. Experience with relevant empirical research (e.g. as part of a degree thesis) is strongly preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and with people at all levels of the organization including IT departments, portfolio managers, risk managers, etc.
- The ability to communicate effectively in English, both in writing and verbally is a must. Dutch is not necessary, but would be a plus.
